Termination Policy

Clinician Termination Policy

Clinicians who are leaving the UBH network should notify any UBH enrollee in ongoing care with them prior to the termination. UBH, in compliance with NCQA requirements, will send notices to any enrollee seeing a clinician leaving the UBH panel. The enrollee should be encouraged to contact UBH to discuss benefit options, including referral for continued care with another clinician on the UBH panel.

Clarification of Termination Policy

UBH wishes to assure its clinicians that it has never had a policy of terminating a clinician because he or she: (1) advocated on behalf of a member; (2) filed a complaint against UBH; (3) appealed a decision of UBH; or (4) requested a review or challenged a termination decision. Moreover, consistent with the terms of the Settlement Agreement entered into in Holstein v. Magellan Behavioral Health, UBH has adhered to this practice both before and since the Settlement Agreement was executed. UBH has not, and will not, terminate any clinician from any of its clinician networks on any of the four grounds enumerated above. Nothing in UBH’s clinician contracts should be read to contradict or in any way modify this long-standing practice.
